Anyone who has visited here before may be shocked to see that my little blog no longer looks like it’s stuck in the ’90s. I did a little redecorating. Not much. I really just put in the bare minimum of effort to make the site look not entirely dated and embarrassing. It wasn’t worth putting in a lot of time to make something fancy, because my posts here are, shall we say, infrequent at best.
For a long time, I’ve written just one or two blog posts per year, mostly in the form of end-of-year check-ins. In recent years, it felt particularly important to me to talk about the challenges of being a parent of a special-needs kid, why and how our family moved to Canada, and what life has been like since then. But I don’t write more because I’m much too busy experiencing life to document it. Maybe that will change at some point, and also maybe I’ll win the lottery.
I was gearing up to write my usual summary this year, just as a matter of principle, but I realized it was going to be a chore and not something that really scratched an itch. What I said last year is still pretty much accurate, and there have been no major changes for better or worse. So I’ll spare you all the long read this year.
However, two things do feel worth a mention:
In a week and a half it’ll be my birthday, and I do have a very special story to tell about some surprising things that happened 57 years ago. I’ve told pieces of it to a few friends but have never written out all the crazy details. If you have any interest in me, coincidences, or Heinz products, I think you’ll find it worth a few minutes of your time. Check back here for that on January 9.
I don’t make resolutions, and even listing broad plans or hopes for the new year seems like an overcommitment. But one thing I do plan to do, circumstances permitting, is attend my 40-year high school reunion at the end of August. I am approaching this with as few expectations as I can, but I’ve never been to a class reunion and I’m really curious to see what changes four decades have brought. Perhaps I’ll write about that, too, when the time comes.
Happy holidays, and I hope to see you back here in January.
